Here are some little tips on how my graphite and charcoal pencils work on my drawing paper.
Before I kick off drawing with some art materials like pencils and pen, I do a little test run on them to know how well they blend on my drawing paper. Drawing papers has varieties and getting the one that suits your pencils or pen is a good step to making a nice artwork. Below, I will talk on some little discovery on how my pencils work on my Strathmore paper.
GRAPHITE PENCIL
Graphite pencils generally has light value when applied on paper. It is distinctively used to shade light areas of your works.
With the sphere drawn with only graphite, I was limited to achieving a degree of darkness. Though I didn't stretch it because I could still go darker a little but I was also being mindful of my drawing sheet.
CHARCOAL
I used charcoal and little white charcoal there on the sphere and it really gave me good result. I blended with a paper stump.
GRAPHITE/CHARCOAL
Here I used graphite and charcoal pencil combined. It was amazing because I thought my paper wouldn't accept both but I realized something while working with this two. I started off with graphite even to the dark area but lightly before I introduced charcoal. It was a bit difficult for the charcoal to blend into the graphite but some good pressing sinked it in. I realized that the charcoal when applied first on paper accepts the graphite comfortably unlike graphite before charcoal. I also realized that I could go even darker with the graphite on top of the charcoal and also refine tiny pores with my well sharpened graphite pencil.
Using the both alongside the other will produce a very nice result at the end.
If you like this and you would want to try it out, please go ahead. We will be waiting for updates on observations and the nice work you made.
