ELEMENTS OF ART
Elements of art are features included within an art piece to help an artist in communication. They are among the basic things that forms the solidity of an artwork. Implementing elements of art in your works places you on the path to achieving a successful art piece.
There are seven elements of art namely: line, shape, space, texture, colour, form, and value.
Line is a visible path connected throught dot. Line forms the basics of every drawing. The first thing that always appear on paper when making a drawing is a line.
Line comes in different types; vertical, spiral, horizontal, diagonal and lots.
Shape mostly on two dimensional surface and depicted with a line.
Geometric shapes covers the different types of shapes: triangle, rectangle, circle, and more.
Shapes is extensively used by artists while drawing. In representing your subject on paper, a quick use of shapes to simplify your subject is a good way to start drawing.
Form is the three-dimensional representation of object; length, width, and depth. In drawings or painting, artists tend to render their works as a 3-D object on a 2-D surface, and that is achievable with the use of form.
Space typically represents length and breadth of your work. The distance between objects in still-life drawing, the area covered by your subject relatively to the background.
Spaces show a rendered foreground, middle ground, background, positive and negative spaces and so on.
Colour as an element of art simply is produced when light hits an object and reflected back to the eyes. It is true that without light, we won't be able to identify colours. And going deeper, light contains colours, if a particular colour is absent from a light, it affects the temperature of an object or a room - we hope to talk more about this changes later in the future.
This is simply the visual feel and look of an object when seen or touched.
Texture in art helps us to distinguish between rough and smooth surfaces and rendering them properly through drawing, painting or sculpting.
Value is simply the intensity of light to darkness. It is the gradual depiction of light from light areas on a drawing or painting through halftones, midtones, to dark areas. This helps in giving an artwork a proper form which makes them look realistic.
